A few random photos from our week. We decided to head for Newquay and lunch at the Forte Inn, one of our favourites as there are such lovely views. The first three photos below were taken from the Inn.
After our lunch we decided to walk along by the sea at Newquay. Another pleasant view from the bowls green, as below.

And now moving on to our garden and our hollyhock. He's a monster and nearly reached our upstairs windows. Most of the flowers have now gone.

There are many stories about the Mount
It is said, for example, that the the Archangel Michael appeared before local fisherman on the mount in the fifth century.
Prior to the 6th century the island was once the home of an eighteen feet tall giant named Cormoran. He lived in a cave with treasures he accumulated by terrorising the local towns and villages.
The week brightened up. So finally a photo of the Mevagissey lighthouse on a sunshine day.

It's so good to see a post from you Mike and blue skies from Cornwall too. Your Hollihock is certainly a whopper, I grew some for the first time this year and was surprised how tall they got. In fact, I've found most things in our gardens and out in the countryside have grown in abundance this year, more than previous years. I'm wondering if the high rainfall over winter and early summer caused this?

Hello David. It's the first year we have had a hollyhock . It was in some plants our son gave us. We were so amazed how it just started to grow and grow - something like Jack and the beanstalk! It's quite bright here at the moment but rain expected. Good wishes to you and Popcorn - Mike.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Mike! First of all, your flowers caught my eye with that perfect dahlia and the delightful hollyhock. I remember them from childhood, growing tall next to my grandmothers house, but honestly I rarely see them now so seeing yours is a treat. We used to make dolls from them, hiding them throughout the yard as if they were fairies! The views from the Inn are quite beautiful and I can imagine it’s a wonderful place for a lunch on a pretty day like this. Also I enjoy the story of the mount!
