The Mevagissey to Fowey Ferry

View from Mevagissey along Cornwall's coastline

I forgot to mention the Mevagissey to Fowey ferry on my two previous posts. According to tripadvisor, at today's date, the ferry is the 'best thing to do' in Mevagissey. Not sure if I entirely agree with this, but it is a fine ride - and return.

The scenery along this stretch of coast is excellent and there is the possibility of seeing dolphins - nothing guaranteed of course.

The ferry between Mevagissey and Fowey

The ferry runs from the Lighthouse Quay, Mevagissey - which is by the lighthouse! It can get busy in the summer months.

The fare (at today's date) is Adult: single £8 and £14 return; Children: single £4 and £7 return. There is no charge for well behaved dogs. Tickets can be bought on board.

The crossing time is approximately 40 minutes.

  1. My first thought was that the return fare was a bit costly, but then again, if it's a 40 minute journey each way and such lovely scenery then I suppose that's not too bad. Lovely pictures as always, I wonder if the Cornwall Tourist board follow your blog? If not then they should.

  2. It's not a cheap ride - more of a trip than a ferry in some ways. If lucky passengers may see dolphins and even basking sharks - but there again they might not see anything of that nature. It can be a choppy ride. Thanks David.

  3. I would enjoy the ride, but I had no idea that the distance was as long. Looking at my map I wouldn’t have guessed. You’ve made a great tourist brochure here and as always, excellent and interesting photos.

    1. Hello Ann,the distance by road is about 14 miles and would be about a 40 minute drive - some narrow roads! Thanks a lot Ann.
