Walking The South West Coast Path Into Polperro, Cornwall

Lots of ups and downs as we walk the coastal path. In the photo below you can just see the top of the small Polperro lighthouse at Spy House Point. Built in 1911, it is only ten feet tall but the light can be seen for eight miles. There is a track down to the lighthouse.

The path gradually starts to go downhill.

Finally we reach the outskirts of Polperro - still downhill!

At last, Polperro harbour and the tide is out. The old fishing village is like stepping back in time, with cottages clinging to the hillside - a great place to visit.

    I keep a handy map of Cornwall with me when I read your posts so I know where the towns are located. I also read that Polperro has a well-known fisherman's choir that performs regularly and wouldn't that be fun to hear! I assume that many tourists would visit the town in season so it's wonderful that you can be there with some peace and quiet. I'm glad your walk was downhill but did you have to reverse your path and walk up hill all the way to your car?! Delightful tour, thanks!

      Thanks Ann. You hit on perhaps the only downside of the South West Coast Path sometimes it means retracing your steps - so you get the ups and downs twice! There are though some circular walks that incorporate the coast path by going inland a short way.
