Gover Valley Walk Cornwall

I had a wander along parts of Gover Valley, St.Austell.  The first photo is of a very old cottage,  still in use and under a preservation order.

The next photo is like a different world. I'm not sure how the sky got to that vivid colour. I blame my camera! The viaduct is used by trains from London to Cornwall.

Under the viaduct is a very pleasant garden.

Next, looking up at the viaduct and two photos of the surroundings follow.

Walking on for a while  I passed  dog kennels.

The path gradually gets  rougher and there are some of the leftovers of the once thriving China Clay Industry. I believe the photo  is of clay ovens.

Warnings about of the dangers of the surrounding area. So advisable to stick to the footpaths

An old sign post.

Further on a Public Footpath sign, which I ignored.

I zig zagged through the fence as I preferred to walk a narrow path.

The path was a bit muddy

The fields eventually came into view.

The fields led to a  quiet road and eventually to another muddy path.

From here I continued until I reached a high point of Gover Valley

Here we are now looking downwards on the valley.

Looking at houses at the bottom of the valley.

From here I walked back beyond the cottage, as seen at the  beginning of the post.

Thanks for visiting my blog ~ Mike.

  1. The 11th of May is Mother's Day in Australia, so we must follow the American's by celebrating Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May.
I see by looking up Mother's Day on Wikipedia that the UK celebrate Mother's Day on March 30th.
As (bad) luck would have it the second Sunday in May this year falls on my ex-wife's birthday :-)
On the 10th of May my local cinema had an advanced screening of 'The Salt Path' and I went and saw it thinking that that walk would probably be the death of me at my age and fitness level ... but I'd like to give it a go in the not-too-distant future ... God willing?
Maybe I should pray too Mother Mary about 'The Salt Path' attempt?-)
Cornwall is certainly on my bucket list of places to visit, but if you want to make God laugh, then tell God your plans, don't they say?
I can see why Hannabeth Luke (a Bali bomb blast survivor I met once and read her book that she signed for me when my youngest son was over in Bali) spent her half a year in Cornwall, and half a year in Australia now.
Maybe at my age I've missed the boat when it comes to overseas travel, but at least I've got your wonderful blog to see what I've missed out on ... maybe?-)

  2. I should have written that The 11th of May is Mother's Day in Australia this year, because obviously the second Sunday in May doesn't fall on the same date every year.

  3. Lovely to see a post from you Mike. Now, as much as I enjoy seeing the beautiful Cornwall coast and harbours, I've enjoyed seeing this walk through the countryside.
That cottage is wonderful and I find it amazing that it's still in use! I'm not surprised you ignored the footpath sign, it doesn't look like the path has had much traffic for a while.
Lovely photo's along the way with your usual added information.
    Take care, David and Popcorn.

    1. Hello David, thanks for your comment. There is a story about the cottage but I'd better not say any more about this here.... Weather has been very pleasant recently so hope to get walking more often. Trust all is well with you and Popcorn. Good wishes.
