A QUICK GLANCE AT FOWEY, CORNWALL.

We had to make a short visit to Fowey so I snapped a few quick photos as we walked. The first two are views on the way from the Fowey car park into town.

We soon reached the colourful river Fowey.

A Water Taxi was returning to the quay.

A boat was nearly ready for a trip up the river.

We walked into the town via the
Customs House Hill

It turned a bit rainy for a while, but soon stopped. We walked along the town to the car ferry which crosses the Fowey River. The large house on the opposite  side of the river was where Daphne du Maurier once lived.

We had finished our reason for visiting Fowey and walked back through the town. More people about now.

That's all for t0day. Thanks for  visiting my blog ~ Mike.

  1. Fowey is a delightful place and your photos remind me of the steep streets and paths down to the river when we visited many years ago. I remember being told by local people that it's name is pronounced " Foy".
We never crossed over on a river taxi, your pictures of the boats and colourful houses show how attractive this place is. David.

  2. Hello David, Fowey ( yes pronounced Foy) is one of my favourite places. We stayed in one of the small cottages for about three months when we were waiting to move into our current house, it was a memorable time. Across the river there is a lovely walk. Good wishes _ Mike.

  3. Nice walk Mike.
I see at Daphne du Maurier's Wikipedia page that she liked walking as much as you do, Mike -
"Du Maurier's love of the outdoors and walking were written about in Annabel Abbs's book Windswept: Walking in the Footsteps of Remarkable Women (Two Roads, 2021) as she retraced the writer's walk along the Rhône river in France, accompanied by her Cornish neighbour and friend Clara Vyvyan."
It's a pity the internet and cell phones weren't available back then, as Daphne may well have had a blog like your blog Mike?

    1. Hello Darren - your comments are always interesting. As for Daphne du Maurier. if you put Daphne du Maurier in the search on this blog it will turn up Maurier's estate home etc.
Trust all is well, good wishes.

  5. Thank you for the delightful tour! Lots of texture and colors in these pictures! It looks like an interesting place even in the hazy weather. I remember an earlier post you wrote some time ago and also remember the pronunciation of the town’s name. I’m surprised my aging memory could recall it! Ann K.

  6. Thank you for this lovely post and photos. I have visited Fowey often with my family when holidaying from the Netherlands and did some crabbing and ate tasteful cakes on the little terrace of the Dwelling House. Very dear memories! Your next post about Charlestown remind me of lovely days at Porthpean beach and eating burger in buns🙂
