A Short Walk to Porthpean, Cornwall

My wife had an appointment at our local hospital, so I wandered off for a short walk. As for the camellia above this is from our garden.

I had a choice of interesting places to visit and decided to head off in the direction of Porthpean.

I soon reached the Porthpean sailing club. It was good to see a blue sky even though it was quite chilly.

I wandered onto Porthpean beach, all was quiet and peaceful.

A couple of photos next, taken from the beach.

There's a sign about Cornwall's Crumbling Cliffs.

A look at those cliffs.

I started on my return to the hospital passing through Lower Porthpean.

There are some pleasant flowers in the gardens of some very desirable properties.

I noticed an old milestone with the old spelling of St. Austell i.e. Austle not Austell.

I was soon back at the hospital to pick up my wife and return home. On the way we spotted a host of golden daffodils.

PORTHPEAN, CORNWALL BEACH AND CLIFFS

Porthpean Road, Cornwall
What a lovely surprise, a blue sky day so we headed for Porthpean Beach, which is about two or three miles from the town of St. Austell and is part of St. Austell Bay.

Porthpean Beach is simply a stretch of sand backed by cliffs, as can be seen in in the the photo above. It's not a hot spot for tourists but is somewhere the locals visit.

The name Porthpean is from the Cornish language words 'porth' meaning cove and 'pean' meaning little or small.

I always find cliffs interesting.

Some of the Porthpean cliffs are topped with trees.

There are a couple of sets of steps for anyone (like me) who wants to get to the top of the cliffs. The steps also lead to the coastal path.

Looking down from the steps, half way. Not many people on the beach today!

At the top of the cliffs is an old look-out used during World War 2.

From the look-out the surrounding countryside can be seen. Lots of fields of green.

I reached the coastal path which heads towards Duporth Beach and Charlestown

This a wonderful positive about Cornwall, there is a coastal path all along the county and beyond. The path isn't always as neat, tidy and flat, as shown in my photo below, but is walkable as long as you don't mind ups and downs.

That's all for today.

Out and About Near St. Austell, Cornwall

Peekaboo! Approaching St. Austell I noticed this lucky cat on the welcome sign.

And below another welcome to the town - not that there is anything going on of course.

In town, however, I did see a tiger ...

... and the very large humming bird.

On the outskirts of the town are sheep ...

... and this little fellow was wearing his best coat.

A pig was rooting about, churning up the grass. What a busy life.

Darkness filled the sky for a while but a rainbow brightened the view. To the right of the rainbow you can just see St. Austell's White Pyramid.

Moving on to the coast. Below is Porthpean Beach, about 2.5 miles from St. Austell town. Often described as the beach where the locals go, but no one about today.

Inland again and a sheep with an itch!

Then it's along to the lake at Par Beach where there are usually ducks geese and the like - though the seagulls often like to boss the surroundings.

And finally a flower, just because it's nice and colourful.

All in all a mixed set of photos for this post, but such is Covid-19 life at the moment.

Take care.

My Garden in Cornwall

There still isn't much colour in our garden at the moment, here in Cornwall. I think Spring must have forgotten us.  On the opposite  ...
