An Alternative Cornwall

Not a usual post today as there are no Cornish harbours, beaches and the like, other than the photo above.  Instead  a few creatures great and small seen in Cornwall. All is peaceful below.

Next is one happy turkey, chuffed at not being stuffed for Christmas.

Sheep. These beauties were seen at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Ponies now, glad to be free and frisky on Bodmin Moor.

Sometimes its difficult to reach an annoying itch.

A pleasant pheasant. I looked at him and he looked at me.

Oh dear, found this poorly robin. Glad to say he survived.

Like some ancient creature found in our garden.

This squirrel was knocking on out front door! As we didn't let him in he made his way to our bird feeder in our back garden!

The squirrel actually got into the feeder.

A butterfly fluttered by ...

...as did the next fellow.

A little sheep appeared lost, perhaps it belonged to Bo Peep.

A contented rabbit.

Strewth, a false widow spider, far from being my favourite creature.

Think I'd better finish today's post in a more positive theme.

Out and About Near St. Austell, Cornwall

Peekaboo! Approaching St. Austell I noticed this lucky cat on the welcome sign.

And below another welcome to the town - not that there is anything going on of course.

In town, however, I did see a tiger ...

... and the very large humming bird.

On the outskirts of the town are sheep ...

... and this little fellow was wearing his best coat.

A pig was rooting about, churning up the grass. What a busy life.

Darkness filled the sky for a while but a rainbow brightened the view. To the right of the rainbow you can just see St. Austell's White Pyramid. 

Moving on to the coast. Below is Porthpean Beach, about 2.5 miles from St. Austell town. Often described as the beach where the locals go, but no one about today.

Inland again and a sheep with an itch!

Then it's along to the lake at Par Beach where there are usually ducks geese and the like - though the seagulls often like to boss the surroundings. 

And finally a flower, just because it's nice and colourful.

All in all a mixed set of photos for this post, but such is Covid-19 life at the moment.

Walking Cornwall's Coastal Path From Polkerris

Following on from my previous post. After visiting Polkerris we decided to walk west along the coastal path.

The only snag in doing this is that it's all uphill from Polkerris to reach the path. There's a short flight of wooden steps, as below, and then the rest of the way to the top is via uneven stone steps. (I counted 124)

Anyway, once up the top it's quite pleasant with the sea and distant views.

The path is mostly easy walking, but some of the farmer's fields have barbed wire to keep walkers out.

Saw this boat making waves and showing off by making patterns in the sea. It looked fun.

Had a quick look at Booley beach. As usual not many people about.

A few sheep in the farmer's fields, some had been shorn.

We watched the sheep dog rounding up the sheep into a tight group. 

I love border collies, we had one for years, he was such a wonderful dog. If out walking with the family or friends, and a few were lingering behind, Toby would try to round them up - pure instinct.

In places, along the coastal path there are some quite steep drops, so have to show a certain amount of respect.

Shallow water near Par, where the tide goes out a long way. Fun for children though - and dogs!

And finally I was lucky enough to snap these two swallows sitting on the barbed wire fence. They seemed quite happy to have their photo taken. Made a nice end to our walk.
