A Day in Cornwall: Charlestown, St.Austell, Heligan

A few photos from the last week when we were out and about. Above is the port at Charlestown and below is looking out to sea from the harbour wall. You might just be able to see a few minute sailing ships on the horizon - or there again you may not.

We then moved on to the town of St. Austell

My wife had an appointment in the town so I mooched about with my camera. Some colourful paintings in the next two photos.

A photo next of a china a clay exhibit on a wall. There are several of these in various places in the town.

The appointment over we headed for the Lost Gardens of Heligan - starting off with a friendly goat.

We always like to see the rhododendrons, though it was a little chilly to use the seats!

Nearly forgot, a saying seen at Heligan:

We don't stop playing because we grow old

We grow old because we stop playing.

A Stroll at Charlestown, Cornwall

After all of the rain, coldness and dark skies we actually had a day of sunshine in Cornwall. So off we went for a stroll around Charlestown.

As we walked I snapped a few quick photos. Even the small beach was tempting.

Not many boats to view but, on the plus side, there were very few other people about.

The sky was a perfect blue, at least for a while.

We wandered along the harbour wall.

Looking inland the cliffs and beach were on view.

It is hard to imagine that 40,000 tones of copper ore were exported from Charlestown between 1810 and 1811.

After our stroll we made our way home. The photo below is of the outer part of Charlestown with green fields in the distance.

We actually walked to Charlestown from Carlyon Bay along a public path to make our stroll / walk a bit longer.

That's all for Charlestown today,  so a couple of indoor flowers my wife has grown, t0 finish the post.

Charlestown Cornwall on a Windy Day

A quick look at Charlestown harbour on a windy day. 

I have often said that Charlestown is one of my favourite places. The wind somehow adds to its appeal.

Another splash over the harbour wall

Gradually the waves subside and it's possible to gaze out to sea.

The lichen on the sea wall adds to the colours.

Below is one of the two  beaches at Charlestown...

... and here is the second  beach. They are both quite stony

The Pier House is in view if any refreshments etc are required.

Charlestown, and Harbour, Cornwall 30+ Photos

All seemed bright and cheerful, as we left home, but this soon changed by the time we reached Charlestown.

All was misty, but there was a feeling of peacefulness - which was very pleasant. As you will see I snapped a few photos as we walked.

I remembered how we visited Charlestown to see in the the 2000 new millennium.  All was then quiet as we stood on the misty  harbour wall. It was quite magical and felt as if we had stepped back into some sort of time warp. Okay, perhaps a bit fanciful, but I'll always remember that special moment

Anyway, back to reality! 

The mist was quite patchy.

There were a few people on one of Charlestown's two beaches.

A young girl seemed locked in her own thoughts, mesmerised by the sea.

We wandered towards the harbour wall where  several people had gathered

The mist seemed to linger.

Looking from the harbour wall the beach appeared quite hazy.

A Dinghy went out to sea .

There's a lifebuoy on the harbour wall.

Next is a mechanism once used to lower boats into the harbour

All gradually got brighter, below is Charlestown's other small beach.

But don't get to near the cliffs!

Everything gradually got brighter and there were more people about. Oh, and there was an ice cream van on a bit of a slant.

More and more people arrived. It's a popular place for holidaymakers  to visit. 

Definitely clearer now.

Let's look at a few boats / ships.

The Pier House was getting busy as the mist lifted.

Below is one of several restaurants - there are a few choices, including the Pier House.

On our way back home now - a couple of cottages seen, on the road into (or out of) Charlestown.

And perhaps  a visit to Carlyon Bay, it's not far.
