Dahlia and Cornwall's Lost Gardens of Heligan

We had a short visit to Cornwall's Lost Gardens of Heligan.

As usual I had my camera with me.

There was a display from the Cornish Dahlia Society. I snapped a few quick photos of some of the dahlia on display.

After the dahlia we popped into the jungle!

Where have all of the people gone? The Sundial Garden was empty.

Lots of apples ended our short visit to Heligan

Soon got back home and had a peek at a couple of our dahlia - all was well.

We often pop into The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Here's my previous Heligan post

Thanks for visiting my blog ~ Mike.
All good wishes.

A SHORT GREEN WALK

We walked from home and mentioned that the  dahlia, in our garden, aren't quite as good this year. We headed towards a nearby lane, passing by this gate, and the old concrete items on display - including a miller's wheel perhaps.

There was a dampness in the air. Perfect for the moss to thrive on the old walls.

A few remaining wild flowers are far from their best but they still have a certain appeal.

I didn't expect to see one of the little people, so soon on our walk, they usually hide away.

A small stream wriggles along the lane - with more greenery on display.

There were more shades of green on an old wall.

A path into the woods looked tempting.

A few raindrops in the wind, but they soon went away.

The small stream again.

You never know what you may find on a walk, if you have time to stand and stare. You might even see two decorated chairs in the undergrowth - most unexpected!

These two creatures sat happily on a wall.

A few wild flowers lingered on.

Back at home, after our walk, this fuchsia looked okay ...

... as did the dahlia hiding amongst the hydrangea leaves.

Another day, another (short) walk. Hope you have a happy week.
Good wishes ~ Mike.

Flowers in my Cornwall Garden

As we had been away from home, for a break, on our return I wandered around our garden to see if it had survived okay without us and snapped a few photos.  The flowers in the photo below below are visitors, they often tumble over our neighbours fence to say hello.

The pansies seem to be quite shy and almost hidden away.

The dahlia, of course, are show offs - but we seem to have lost a few dahlia this year. They usually winter quite happily in the garden.

The gladioli are also very gaudy...

... as are the lilies.

The geraniums survived okay in their crib.

This is one of the fuchsia which stay in the garden all year round.

Passion flowers or Passiflora: they have spread so quickly over a garden wall. Lots of flowers this year.

We have several hydrangea, this one is from a cutting. The flower heads on the larger plants are quite heavy.

Finally something different - a peach tree! Well not quite but it may have peaches one day - perhaps. You may have seen my post Growing Apple Tree From A Pip. This is about how my wife grew an apple tree from a pip which has produced apples. She has now moved on to peaches! Not sure how many years I'll have to wait for any fruit, but I won't hold my breath. The apple tree took eight years!

Flowers in Cornwall Plus a Church and a Harbour

I'm by no means an expert gardener, but I do enjoy flowers even if I don't necessarily  know their names. The flowers don't seem to be upset by my lack of knowledge. Maybe it's because I chat to them as I tend their needs.

Above is a geranium at the front of my house and below a dahlia from the back garden.

Just realised I have lots of pink colours in the garden. This wasn't planned  but just developed over the years. I seem to have captured a finger in the next photo along with the dahlia.

A fuchsia below. I lifted the flower giving him/her a helping hand as I clicked the photo.

Yes, more pink. Looks like I was on night patrol.

We have lots of passion flowers or Passiflora this year. You probably know the story - it is  said to be symbolic of Jesus on the cross. The flower has spikes protruding from the center symbolising the crown of thorn and the flower has ten petals for the ten faithful apostles.

Hydrangea: we have several bushes - and one of them is, of course, a shade of pink!

A fuchsia plus a mixture of other bits and pieces including the remains of an old tree.

Not sure what the flower below is. I should really know the name as it comes back faithfully every year.

A couple more flower photos.

We took some flowers to the church at St. Stephen-in-Brannel to place on a grave. Always a sad visit.

We then moved on to Charlestown to clear our heads. Made us smile to see the hat on a traffic cone looking at the postbox in the cottage wall

Roses over the door of another cottage.

A pleasant day weatherwise so people about taking photos.

The entrance to Charlestown Harbour with a sailing ship in the distance.

The next day the weather changed  so this dahlia got a bit battered with wind and rain.

Next doors' trailing plant is still tumbling over the fence and is very welcome.

A petunia - pinkish, of course.

Actually the rain didn't effect the dahlia too much.

Finally, this is a whopper of a dahlia. Last year it grew to well over five feet tall.

Thanks for visiting my blog, all good wishes ~ Mike.
